In 1461 John merried a Venetian women and they had three sons named Ludovico, Sebastiano and Sancio. A merchant like his father, Cabot traded spices with the ports of eastern Mediterranean and also he became an expert mariner. In 1494 Cabot returned to England to the merchant ports of Bristol where he settled with his family and to the King, Henry. John's scheme was to reach Asia by sailing west across the North Atlantic. In England Cabot received the backing. He was refused in Spain and Portugal.
In 1496 Cabot made his first try and it was a failure. The next year Cabot had better luck.
On May 2nd 1497,with a crew of 18 men Cabot sailed from Bristol on board the Matthew. The King of England wanted Cabot to find new land. They found new land on June 24, 1497 after 52 days of leaving Bristol England, they went back to their new land and raised the England flag. John Cabot and his crew had to return home because their food began to run out. The strong winds caused the Matthew to sail across the Atlantic Ocean in only 15 days and they called it New-found-land, also they found lots of fish there too. The merchants weren't pleased with them finding fish.
John Cabot returned in August where he was granted a pension and the merchant gave him money for another trip.
In May 1498 he sailed again consisting of four or five ships and three hundred men. While at sea they sailed into a storm and the Metthew was never seen again.
